Lutz Brinkmann: Photography samples
The photos here, picked randomly from my still life and landscape sub-archive from a randomly chosen year, are just a sample standing in for a lifelong love for taking pictures. My interest in this art lies in the ability of a photo to freeze time and preserve a past I deem worth the effort of preserving. Photography, in rare cases, is able to show people in their most attractive and revealing moments – and make those moments last. Photography, invented in the 19th century, has become a trivial add-on to everyday life. The general public has since lost all connection to realising what a technical miracle photography really is. I hesitate to showcase my best images publicly for reasons of privacy, as these photos all depict people. Indecision is part of concealing what one does best and likes doing most. But what can one do? There are about 100 000 photos in my various well-sorted collections, dating back to the 80s.
